Frank Sinatra said it best: “The Copacabana was like New Year’s Eve every night!” The Copacabana in New York was more than a nightclub. It was an icon, a flourishing institution that became world-famous: celebrities, personalities, entertainers, high society, and stargazers. The Copa (of the forties, fifties, sixties, and even the seventies) epitomized glamour and excitement. As one critic wrote, “Those were the thrilling years of an incredible era!” The Copa became a celebrity hangout. Whenever an entertainer, a politician, or a member of the underground society visited New York, a night out at the Copacabana was a “must” activity.
